Swapping out your blue jeans for white denim is pretty much a summer rite of passage.
But white, as a color, can be tricky: Too lightweight and it shows every lump and line, too heavy and it adds bulk.
Here’s where Six to Sunday shines. Over the last year, we’ve tested brands on women of all shapes and sizes for fabric quality, comfort, and style, reviewing the rise in height, stretch, the comfort of the waistband, and more.
Our holy grail question? “Do we love these pants for grown-up women?”
Today, we bring you the brands and styles that shine.
Levi's. Levi’s continues to impress in sizing. The 311 Shaping Skinny Jean comes in standard and plus sizing and in four (!) different lengths. While Levi’s is known for different types of denim at different price points, the 311 is one of our favorites due to its value of quality denim to price point.
NYDJ. The NYDJ denim brand has made their name selling jeans designed to flatter a womanly figure with patented Waist-Match™ technology to boot. We love the wide elastic waist panel, tummy control fabric between the pockets, and overall comfort of these jeans. Insider Tip: If between sizes, always size down in NYDJ.
Madewell. Madewell is one of our favorite brands for denim, making most of their pants in petite, tall, plus, and standard sizing. We love the high rise, slight stretch (read: no bagging after wear), and denim weight—not too heavy or too light. Complete with the holds-you-in sorcery of Madewell’s Magic Pockets™, these white jeans win.
Spanx. Spanx jeans have consistently ranked at the top of our list for body-flattering denim. Functional front and back pockets give this cropped wide leg just enough design intrigue to make us forget about the nonexistent zipper (which, oh by the way, means super flattering hidden tummy shaping). Insider Tip: Spanx can run small, including this style, so we recommend you size up if you are between sizes.
Good American. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Bootcut jeans are single-handedly the most universally flattering jean style. Meanwhile, it’s coming back into the market, so it’s current too (yay!). This pick is just a clean, classic look… thank us later.
Ecru. In a five-pocket, classic style, the Melrose jean is a wardrobe staple beloved by women in our community. Their favorite part? The added stretch at the waist for a super comfortable fit. Six to Sunday purchased and loved!
Mother. The High Waisted Looker has been one of our favorite Mother styles for a long time. It hits the right place on your waist, has enough stretch to accommodate your unique body, and features a clean, ankle-length inseam. If you—like us—are still wearing skinny legs, in a slightly off-white hue, these jeans have the right blend of classic and current.
Francis Valentine. Francis Valentine is a brand known for perfecting fabrication that accommodates women's bodies as we evolve. The length is spot on, the comfort factor is high (just read the reviews), and the off-white color plus contrast stitching adds instantaneous style to otherwise traditional white jeans.
AGOLDE. If you, like us, like to play with mixing classic and current styles, these cargo-inspired jeans are perfect. They’re of the moment, but classic enough to last in your wardrobe for years to come—not only because of the wide-leg cut but also because of the high-quality, 100% organic denim. Buyer’s Note: Due to its 100% cotton fabrication, these jeans will have more limited stretch, which means more shape holding, but less give.
