No matter how you celebrate your Thanksgiving, there is one thing we all share at this point in our lives: keeping the focus on what’s really important.
Family, friends, quality time, and an extra helping of pecan pie. Being able to navigate seamlessly from finishing touches in the kitchen to a walk before dinner. Fitting in that game of beach football before heading over to the neighbors. Enjoying the Macy’s Day Parade on the couch even though you promised to prepare your signature creamed onions because your kids’ begged you to.
Six to Sunday content serves you curated clothing specifically to give you time back so that you can enjoy more of life! This Thanksgiving, we bring you recommendations for outfits that feel neither too casual nor too overdressed so that you can spend less time fussing and more time enjoying all of the activities you decide to fit into your day.
Wear your go-to sweater with sophisticated trousers. The key to leather is loose, and, lucky for us, leather and faux leather has arrived this season in an array of shapes and autumnal colors that compliment all body types and styles. To keep the body temperature cool, pair the pant with your favorite white tee shirt during the day and save the knit - in neutral or with a pop of color - for the main dining event.
Let a flirty skirt do the work. Midi skirts look good on all body types because the skirt effortlessly floats away from the body starting at the waist, giving you curves in all the right places. Transitions between Thanksgiving activities are easy by swapping a slide-on flat or clean white sneaker for a kitten heel bootie for dinner. Meanwhile, the breathability of a skirt is bar none (extra points here for hot flash proof). This season we prefer keeping the spotlight on flirty florals and silky fabrics, pairing a skirt with either a simple sweater or a monochrome tank-and-blazer combination.
Play with proportion and layering. An unexpected layering option for Thanksgiving is the oversized sweater vest. Executed seamlessly in a neutral color palette, the size of the sweater plays the starring role in middle management AND keeps us comfortable as we help ourselves to extra turkey and another glass of champagne. We love all types of undershirt elements including a fitted turtleneck, an oxford with a flourish, and even a light tank underneath. Throw on your favorite black denim, and you are ready for anything.
Keep it light and airy. A sheer blouse has held its position as a timeless, elevated staple because it manages to be both modest and sexy, and like the oxford, it can flex into different patterns and shapes as what’s current changes season to season. It’s also a perimenopause favorite, sort of quietly whispering “tell me you’re having a hot flash without telling me you’re having a hot flash.” We like this look paired with jeans, tucked or untucked, and layered on top of your favorite camisole in the same- or like-color tone.
