Here are her favorites

A great pair of jeans is the foundation of an outfit. Jeans are the pieces that help your top and accessories sing - be it a perfect white T-shirt for the weekend or a silk top for date night. Get jeans wrong, and not only do they take away from the outfit, but worse they are uncomfortable and unflattering.

In the last year, AYR, a woman-founded and -led, L.A.-based brand, has come out strong, and so we were curious. Are they as comfortable, simple, and confidence-inspiring as the brand suggests?

The Jeans

Style: The Yes, Yes, Yes
Price: $225
Size: 33
Fit: True to Size
Quality: Better than Expected
Stretch: Moderate
Overall Ranking: 5.0

Pro:
Flattering cigarette fit
Crop length works well on average height woman
Just enough stretch, but still feels like a jean
Flattering rise just above the belly button

Con:
Limited “give” to the waist band

This jean has a classic, flattering cigarette shape that is fitted to the body without being a skinny jean. At 1% Elastane, it has enough stretch to be comfortable, but not so much that I worry it will lose its shape. The rise hits right at the belly button and stays in place.  As a woman with a midsection, I’m always sensitive to a jean’s give in the waistband. The Yes, Yes, Yes jean waistband was great for me, but not necessarily forgiving – so for women who like more stretch in that area, I would recommend jeans with more Elastane content. I've worn these everyday since their arrival. I am loving these jeans!

Style: The Beat
Price: $225
Size: 33
Fit: True to Size
Quality: Better than Expected
Stretch: Moderate
Overall Ranking: 4

Pro:
Flattering front pockets
Comfortable, relaxed leg shape

Con:
Stretched out around the knee after wear
Tapered leg not as flattering on a larger build
I've been looking for a cropped wide leg jean that looks good on my frame. I like the front pockets and flat fitting rise, and for a larger frame woman seeking a relaxed fit, these are a definite option. At 5’8”, the crop hits at a flattering length slightly above the ankle. However, after wearing them for a day, the knees really stretched out, resulting in a barrel leg, tapered at the ankle shape that I didn’t find as flattering on my shape or versatile with many shirt tops. I would have preferred a true straight leg for this style.

Style: The Pop
Price: $225
Size: 33
Fit: True to Size
Quality: As Expected
Stretch: High
Overall Ranking: 3.5

Pro:
Good stretch in fabric made for a flattering, comfortable fit.

Con:
Rise was a little short
Felt more like stretch pant instead of a jean

This AYR jean has a high stretch content (2% elastane in this style vs 1% in the other styles tried), which made for a flattering, comfortable fit. While comfy, these jeans felt more like a stretch jegging than a jean and not special enough for the price. With my body type, I find high stretch content jeans can wear out in the inner thigh quickly and so this style was a pass for me.

Style: The Secret Sauce
Price: $225
Size: 33
Fit: Runs Small
Quality: As Expected
Stretch: Little/None
Overall Ranking: 3

Pro:
Perfect length rise.

Con:
Leg was too narrow for a frame with healthy hips/butt
Constraining waistband
Sizing runs small by one to two sizes
Front whiskering is not flattering for body type

The Secret Sauce jean sizing was off compared to the other styles I tried. I ordered a 33 and 34, and even the 34 was too tight on my bottom-heavy frame to achieve the straight leg look I was hoping for. While both sizes buttoned all the way, I found the waist very constraining and the front whiskering not the most flattering. Aat 5’8”, the regular inseam was too long, and would recommend the short inseam for a more flattering fit. I think these could be a great straight leg jean for someone who has less butt/hip than me.
