Tis the season for glitter and glam, and we’d be hard-pressed to think of a better excuse to turn up the volume on your style. Enter: Sequins!
Adding some sparkle is always a good idea, whether you’re going to an office party, dinner with friends, a cocktail party, or having a girls' night out.
The trick is figuring out how to wear sequins in a way that feels like the real you and not like you’re working the main stage at the Bellagio. Let’s break it down.
The truth is, most social settings have you interacting with people from the waist up–that is to say, you’re milling about at a party (in a crowd, a sea of faces) or sitting at a dinner table (Waist. Up). A sequin top or jacket puts the glam up where people can see it, and it is more easily styled than you think.
Six to Sunday Tips:
The stores are stocked with sequin pants, and if you’ve got great gams, go for them. You’ll find them in every iteration, from tux pants to leggings, but we’re particularly mad for sequin joggers as an unexpected (but no less dressy) alternative. Whatever shape or style you like, let the pants (or skirt) be the stand-out and pair them with a soft sweater, a tailored blazer, or a white, slightly oversized button-down.
Six to Sunday Tips
If a sequin dress or blazer isn’t your speed, we see you. Baby steps are just fine, so add a clutch, a belt, or an embellished shoe (ahem, only one, not all of the above). Wear your accessory of choice with literally anything in your closet for that quick but subtle hit of sparkle.
This is also the easiest way to go from day to night–keep the sparkly accessory tucked away until it’s time for the event and BOOM, the party is on.
