Recently we asked you what items you needed help finding this spring, and the ideas came flooding in (thank you!).
First up: Where can curvy gals find great-fitting wide-leg, cropped jeans? GREAT question.
We love this style of jeans—it’s an ideal alternative to the skinnies and straight legs in your arsenal, and it’s very much on-trend at the moment. The trick is to find something that accentuates your shape without overwhelming your body, and that’s a matter of controlling the volume and finding the perfect pairings.
Our advice is to keep it fitted through the hips (even a little snug is good) so that the volume is on your lower legs. High-waisted versions are elongating, and to get the proportions right, balance out your bottom half with a fitted top or shrunken jacket and delicate, feminine shoes (whether flats or sandals).
Here’s our lineup.
Madewell. For an ultra-light wash, we look no further than Madewell’s Perfect Vintage. (We've covered the Perfect Vintage pant many times before, and it really is perfect.) Ignore their sneaker pairing and instead opt for a barely-there sandal and bright top (crisp white or a bold, saturated color) for a spring-forward look.
Good American. A phenomenally body-forward brand that has re-engineered fit for inclusive sizing. If you haven’t already heard of them, now is the time to try. High waist, hugs at the hips, with a clean, cropped hem that is very of the moment.
NYDJ. A flared (versus traditional wide leg) we wanted to feature because it’s just one of the best fits we’ve tried when it comes to hugging curves in all the right places. Comfort and function all in one.
Universal Standard. Universal Standard uses a size 18 for their sample size, so you know they’re serious about dressing curves. We like how this style is fitted through the waist and hip, with ample stretch throughout.
Paige. A pretty, medium wash with a raw hem and a touch of natural distressing throughout.
Universal Standard. A standout dark denim wash that looks more like high-quality Japanese denim due to the indigo coloring and more structured fabric. High rise, a wide cuff that’s tacked at the seams, and deep pockets.
Maeve (Anthropologie). The good news? Maeve is one of our favorite brands—we just looovvveee the fit. This dark denim wash is stunning and sophisticated. The bad news? This item (along with a second medium denim wash color) is on backorder. Depending on your sizing, you can expect delivery from mid-May to late June. Knowing how popular this style is, we'd snag one now.
Spanx. The twill, cropped, wide leg is one of Spanx’s (and Six to Sunday's) best sellers, and for good reason. It’s body-flattering and midsection shaping, with design details that matter (like the charming pocket details). Insider Tip: Spanx can run small, including this style, so we recommend you size up, especially if you’re between sizes.
Madewell. Madewell’s Perfect Vintage family of jeans is becoming an insider staple. We always look for high waistlines and appreciate that part of what makes the Perfect Vintage perfect is the holds-you-in sorcery of Madewell’s Magic Pockets™. The white wash here cannot be beaten.
Maeve. A summer-friendly, wide-leg, cropped pant with lovely front patch pockets. This jean fits so well Anthro makes it in like 389 colors, including this amazing white.
Madewell. One of Madewell’s best-selling wide-leg crop pants, thanks to the high-waist and petite, front patch pockets. They come in a signature stretch cotton canvas in two colorful, yet neutral(ish) colors for wear-every-day cool.
Maeve (Anthropologie). In 10(!) colors, this wide-leg cropped pant from Maeve (one of our favorite Anthro brands) is a win. Pick your favorite color... or buy multiple.
